Polio

Polio epidemics devastated the world up to the 1950s when vaccines were developed.

In New Zealand the main two places where polio survivors where rehabilitated
were the Wilson Home in Auckland and the Duncan Hospital in Wanganui.

These documentary videos focus on the history of these two places.

Faithnet also made videos about Post Polio Syndrome at Polio NZ Conferences from 2007 to 2013.

Otiwhiti Station – Book Launch The book "Otiwhiti Station" is the story of the Duncan family. Many Polio survivors owe their recovery to the Duncan Hospital, which was started by Mr & Mrs T.A. Duncan and funded from the proceeds from the Otiwhiti Station farm in the 1940s and 1950s.
