Dr Nancy Klimas
is an amazingly important ME/CFS world expert, and she has brought her
knowledge to share with us to update us in NZ on recent developments in
the research, diagnosis, management and treatment of patients with
ME/CFS, and the ongoing investigation into the possible links with
xenotropic murine leukemia (XMRV) retrovirus.
In New Zealand, it is estimated that there are around 20,000 sufferers
and over one million in the US.
Dr
Klimas is a professor of Medicine, Psychology, Microbiology and
Immunology at the University of Miami School of Medicine, and has just
opened her own clinic to patients. She leads a multidisciplinary
research team representing the fields of immunology, autonomic
medicine, neuroendrocrinology, behavioural psychology, rheumatology,
nutrition, and exercise physiology. She is also director of Research
for the Clinical AIDS/HIV Research at Miami Veterans Affairs Medical
Centre.

Dr. Mary Ann Fletcher has
directed the laboratory since its inception. She is a licensed Clinical
Laboratory Director in Florida and New York and is certified as a High
Complexity Laboratory Director by the American Board of Bioanalysis.
Dr. Fletcher is a member of the American Association of Immunologists,
the American Society for Microbiology, the Society for Applied
Cytometry, the Clinical Immunology Society, the American Association of
Bioanalysts and the American Association of Clinical Chemists. She
serves on the editorial boards of Diagnostic and Clinical Immunology,
Clinical Cytometry, Clinical Applied Immunology Reviews and the CFS
Research Reviews.
